2015 March 8: Green Banana Curry

I bought some bananas that everyone in the store told me were very good to eat, and were ready to eat. I didn't think they were ready, still being very green, but always up for a culinary adventure (as long as it is vegetarian), I bought them.

They were not ripe.

They were not "ready to eat".

They were, however, good to make Green Banana Curry!

Here is the recipe:


  • 3 green bananas or 6 small green bananas
  • 1 tsp raw curry powder
  • 1 piece cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • Pinch of salt, plus salt to taste
  • Water

Peel and cut the green banana into bite size pieces. Put bananas into a large pot. Add all other ingredients except coconut milk and water. Add enough water to cover the bananas. Cook on low heat, covered, stirring occasionally, until bananas are soft. Add more water if necessary during cooking. When the bananas are cooked, uncover, add coconut milk and cook for 2 more minutes. Add salt to taste.
